Comment: The seminar was pretty much mostly off topic discussion most of the time. It was about human / animal navigation, and our final assignment was to run some experiments on people to see if they actually had navigation magnets in their head and then write a paper about it. Prof Caldwell didn't give us paper instructions on how to do the assignments so GG if you thought he said something but he didn't. He's also a little full of himself sometimes.

Comment: Although he had a very monotonous voice, I can tell he really enjoys the subject. Also, I thought that the exams were pretty straight forward. The GSIs are always good for the class, which can really supplement your learning. A very interesting class!

Comment: Fascinating topic and you can tell the professor loves his job. Takes getting used to the monotone lecture style, though. Also, entire grade is based off of three exams.

Comment: i like caldwell the guy but his class was very disorganized and the lectures were, unfortunately, ridiculously boring. a generous curve saved me from failing

Comment: Very boring lectures, but at least they're short. The GSIs were the worst part- they were not knowledgeable about the material. The exams were difficult to study for (as the whole course was mainly just example after example). To get an A you have to memorize every example & things that were not at all emphasized or seemingly significant during lecture (such as obscure scientists).

Comment: Some of the material might be a little repetitive, but it was interesting nonetheless. The midterms, in my opinion, were fair, but the final was very difficult.

Comment: Professor is boring. Exams are ridiculously hard and GSI's grading standards are unreal. Professor shoots for a mean of 60 for exams. Do not take this class unless you are required to.

Comment: Very boring lecturer. Everything is on podcasts though and no homework is assigned; midterms are fair but may ask for stupid little details such as "What boat did Charles Darwin ride on?"

Comment: Terrible. terrible. ridiculously boring and basically straight memorization of a million examples. Don't take this. ever.

Comment: Professor Caldwell was one of my worst professors at Cal. Although he is very knowledgeable about the subject, his teaching style was incredibly boring and disorganized and difficult to understand. His assignments and tests were convoluted and did not enforce the taught material. Furthermore, I worked as a student assistant in his lab and he was incredibly rude. I quit working in research because he made the lab such a terrible experience.
