Comment: This non-curved class is fairly easy, and Horvath is a pretty good lecturer. Be careful not to lose silly points on your homeworks.

Comment: One of the best profs I've ever had at Cal. Very enthusiastic. Cares a lot about students. He'll know everyone in the class by name by the 2nd week of instructions. Strongly recommend taking this class (or any other class) from him!

Comment: A LOT of memorization for this class. Assignments were quite longs at time, but the GSI and Horvath were great at helping

Comment: Great guy. Material was really boring, but he has a dry sense of humor that I found hilarious. Not too difficult at all.

Comment: Another great professor at Berkeley. Make sure you go to every one of his lectures, Horvath covers everything that will be on the exams in lecture. The assignments don't really prepare you for the exams at all, but require a bit of time. His exams are a lot of memorization.

Comment: Horvath is a great lecturer and his slides are very well organized. The assignments are pretty straightforward but they could sometimes take a while to do. Exams were reasonable; there is a lot of memorization, especially with the assigned papers, but he goes over what he thinks is important.

Comment: I wish I've taken this course 1~2 years earlier to alleviate my impression about Berkeley that all professors are out there to hurt students and enjoy us suffer. On the contrary, Professor Horvath is very caring and knowledgeable person and he is very organized with his lectures and with the overall semester schedule. Nothing in the assignment or the problems in the exam come as a surprise and you do get out with a broad knowledge of the subject of sustainability. To put it shortly, Berkeley would be a lot nicer place if professors taught it like Horvath.

Comment: Horvath cares a LOT about his students, and is a very friendly, helpful professor. I wish I would have attended office hours, but still, he is extremely engaging during lectures and makes even the mundane parts of environmental engineering interesting, while incorporating the economic and social impacts as well (He CREATED EIO-LCA. That's awesome!). Assignments do not follow lecture very closely and can be very tedious, but the readings are important and will be tested on the exams. Overall, a straight forward class, interesting and not too difficult compared to most all other technical courses. I plan to take CE 111 next semester.

Comment: Horvath definitely cares about his students and has a unique ability of remembering names and faces. He spends a lot of time talking about his research, which is very relevant and interesting. I wish the class was heavier on the math side though, since exams involved a lot of memorization.

Comment: Horvath is awesome! On the first day of class he says that he'll remember everyone's name and you don't believe him. Then a few weeks later he calls on you and you're surprised. More to the point. The class is pretty easy and focuses on environmental sustainability. I took 11 over 70 because I thought the material was way more interesting. Homeworks can be tricky but he gives good handouts. He basically tells you what's going to be on the tests during the review sessions.

Comment: Course was great! One of the most applicable classes for any engineer! Exams were annoying though, and were not a good representation of the course material. Two time intensive group projects. I'd highly recommend taking this course.

Comment: Horvath is extremely enthusiastic and and I like his sense of humor. He doesn't do much teaching though. Most of his classes are discussion about projects or assignments.

Comment: Overall, the class gives a very broad and qualitative understanding of construction. Prof Horvath is totally approachable and pretty enthusiastic about the subject. The projects are very time consuming. Exams draw heavily from previous years - so make sure to look over them for an easy A!

Comment: Not as enthusiastic as CE11, but still learned a surprising amount of useful information that was applicable to other projects and interviews and understanding companies.

Comment: Eh. This course was alright. It did teach me a few things about the construction industry I never knew about such as cost estimating, scheduling, types of contracts, etc. If you're interested in project management, take it. If not, try CEE 111, CEE 191, or CEE 175 instead. Horvath was alright. PowerPoint lectures. Dull problem sets. Fair exams. Useful office hours. I would have liked it more if the problem sets were more interesting (for instance, if they involved the use of scheduling software).

Comment: Horvath is an AMAZING professor!! This class is rather theoretical for a "project management" class, but he gives you a very nice introduction to the field, specifically as it applies to the construction industry. He also has a very charming sense of humor, and he can make even the most seemingly boring topics (contracts, bidding, scheduling) interesting. I came into this class expecting boringness and difficulty, but I walked out loving it, thanks in large part to Horvath!
