Comment: Lectures are boring and pointless. The only reason I learned anything in CEE122 is due to my amazing GSI. Exams are straightforward and draw from the homework and textbook examples. Majority of students get A's.
CIV ENG 122 (Fall 2011)
Comment: I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about, but I think Prof. Astaneh is a really helpful and worthwhile professor. He does not hold back on telling us what we'll expect to see in his exams during his OH. More importantly, he makes sure to answer your every question. Really nice professor. Also, CE 122 is an interesting class! You get to learn how to use SAP2000, and it's a good class to have to attract internships. I'm your average student at the CEE dept, but I got a solid A in this class. Take it!
CIV ENG 122 (Spring 2011)
Comment: Astaneh does not seem like he cares about teaching. Let's get that out of the way first. He is very disorganized, doesn't really know what is going on (when things are due, etc.) and if you do not have a good GSI who will really step up (we didn't), you are kind of screwed. Astaneh isn't very detail oriented, as evidenced by the myriad of mistakes in his reader (he was in the process of publishing it during our semester, hopefully he has all of the mistakes taken care of for future semesters).
On the plus side, Astaneh is very helpful in office hours (if you can catch him) and is very knowledgeable.
Assignments are pretty fair and at an acceptable level, and his exams are really easy. For our second midterm, the lowest score in the class was 91/100. LOWEST SCORE!
Quite a boring lecturer.
