Hello from Cal Rotaract!

Shoutout to our amazing members who came out to our Committee Night, Family Night, Service Saturday: Peace Grove Beautification, and St. Mark’s Hot Meals Program! If you couldn’t make it to these events, don’t worry! Come out to our Second General Meeting thisTuesday, September 20th from 7-8pm to learn more about our upcoming events! We will also be revealing our first round of small groups for the semester, so be sure to attend!

Becoming a Member! Interested in becoming a member, but not sure where to start? In order to become a member, you must fill out an online membership application

and turn in your membership payment. You have the option of paying $15 for one semester, or $25 for two semesters. If you pay for the two semester package, you can receive a free Cal Rotaract t-shirt! You can drop off your payment at our general meetings, during our tabling hours MondayThursday from 10am-2pm on Sproul Plaza, or through our official Venmo account @CalRotaract.

Join a family Since Rotaract is a large club, we’ve created the family system to promote close-knit bonds among our members and provide as many opportunities for people to get to know one another as possible. This semester, Rotaract is introducing a new system called the Big Bear/Little Bear in addition to our established Family System. There are three Rotaract families and they split into nine Big Bear/Little Bear groups. Each Big Bear/Little Bear groups is led by two officers (big bears) and will have 6-8 general members (little bears). In order to be sorted into a small group, please fill out the membership application, pay your dues, and complete the Small Group Preference Form here

Internships This semester Cal Rotaract is hiring new interns! We are currently accepting internship applications for our Historian and Design chairs.

  1. Historian Intern: Do you want learn how to take/edit awesome photos and videos, be loved by everyone you take amazing photos of in Rotaract, get exclusive invites to Rotaract/Rotary events, and get your foot into the officer circle? Then apply to the Historian Intern Team, where you will be working alongside Rotaract’s Historian to document club accomplishments and history through photography, videography, and social media platforms. You will also help conceptualize and execute various individual projects throughout the semester, including photo booths, videos, and new creative ideas decided by our historian. All are welcome to apply, regardless of skill level or experience. If you’re interested, fill out our historian intern application

  2. Design Intern: Have an interest in graphic design? Apply to be a Design Intern! As a design intern, you will be helping our design chair design some of our marketing materials like the Facebook event banners and maybe even event t-shirts! It’s a great way to learn and improve your skills while acquiring great insight at what it’s like to be a Rotaract officer. No prior Photoshop or Illustrator experience is required. If interested, fill out our design intern application here

Surveys We are constantly trying to improve our organization so that we can provide the best for our members! In order for us to improve our events and meetings for the future we need your feedback on our past events through our surveys. Surveys for each event are posted on the event Facebook page during the event so that members can fill them out immediately after an event ends. Each survey you fill out is worth 30 membership points, and this semester we are enacting a new system in which the first 10 members to fill out 10 surveys will receive a $10 Amazon gift card! Mentorship PenPal Application 
Do you remember the struggle of senior year of high school? With the anxiety of college decisions, trying to figure out your major, and wondering what college is really like, senior year is not a walk in the park. To help alleviate the stress of some high school seniors, your Interact Committee Co-Chairs are introducing the Mentorship PenPal program where you, a college student, will be paired with 1-3 college seniors to guide them through the good times and not so good times of senior year. More information can be found on the Mentorship PenPal application

Interact Committee’s main goal is to bridge the gap between the collegiate version of Rotary, Rotaract, with its high school branch, Interact. Our committee’s main project for the semester is the Cal Berkeley Rotaract Stayover (CBRS), in which we strive to empower youth to create a brighter and better tomorrow

9/19-9/21, 9/26-9/28: LoCo- Succulent Fundraiser
Sproul Plaza | 10am-2pm | FB Event

Still decorating your dorm room/apartment? Want to help fundraise for a good cause? Local Committee will be selling one-of-a-kind succulents as a fundraiser to raise money for our end of the semester events, Operation Christmas Child and EPN 5K in November. Please support our cause by purchasing a succulent and/or helping us sell succulents during a shift. Sign up for a shift by filling out the form here

9/20: Yogurt Park Fundraiser
Yogurt Park | 5-10pm | FB Event

What better way to say bye to summer and hello to the school year than a classic cup of Yogurt Park’s froyo? Come to Yogurt Park anytime from 5pm-10pm on Tuesday, September 20th and Yogurt Park will donate 15% of ALL SALES toward Cal Rotaract! The funds will go towards transportation and materials for our Fall hands-on service projects such as packaging meals sent overseas for school children, helping local shelters, youth empowerment programs, and beautifying Berkeley!

9/20: Second General Meeting: Stronger Together

Cal Rotaract welcomes you to our 2nd General Meeting dedicated to our organization’s first pillar: Service. This semester, we are focusing our projects on sustainable service, service learning, and growing Stronger Together! With our goal of 1500 service hours, we want to make it meaningful: centering our conversations on WHAT the needs of the communities we serve are, WHY those needs exist, and HOW we can work alongside the members of these communities in order to make a thoughtful and lasting impact!

9/21-9/22, 9/28-9/29: International Committee Fundraiser for Nicaragua
Sproul Plaza | 10am-2pm | FB Event

In a joint fundraising campaign with the Rotaract club of Quartu Sant’Elena Margine Rosso, Sardina, Italy, the Rotaract Club of Geneva, Switzerland, and the Rotaract Club of Buenos Aires, we will be fundraising on Sproul for Time4Life’s project in Chinandega, Nicaragua. Cal Rotaract’s International Committee will be selling coffee on Sproul from 10-2pm on September 21st, 22nd, 28th, and 29th. The money raised from this fundraiser will be used to provide educational opportunities to children, avenues for economic development, clean drinking water, and essential medical care. Please come visit our table, purchase a cup of coffee, and support a great cause!

9/23: Social: Exploring Your New Home!

Congrats! The sun is setting on your first month of the fall semester, so come join your Fellowship co-chairs and Rotaract family to relish the spectacular views of the SF bay. With Family reveals the Tuesday before, this is the perfect opportunity to take some time off from studying to get to know your new Rotaract Family members! Targeting those who love hiking or enjoy bonding over Thai food! We hope to see you work your glutes and your appetites with us!

9/24: Rotary Mixer
MLK 5th Floor, Tilden Room | 9-11am | FB Event

We are having our Rotary/Rotaract Mixer on September 24th from 9am to 11am in Tilden Room on the 5th floor on MLK on Berkeley Campus. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and connect with Rotarians from our community, both from the Berkeley Rotary Club and the Albany Rotary Club. All Rotarians are established professionals and having a chance to network with them is a significant opportunity. This event also signifies the kickoff of Rotary Committee’s mentorship program! At the end of the event there will be a questionnaire to fill out regarding which Rotarian you would like to have as a mentor for this semester, and possibly beyond!

9/26: Rotary Committee Meeting #2

Rotary Committee serves to connect Cal Rotaract with Rotary International. Through our Rotary Mixers, Ignitus (a Ted-Talk inspired event), as well as our Mentorship Program, we hope to inspire members to continue service at the professional level. Join Rotary committee to get more involved in planning Ignitus and participating in our Mentorship Program! 

9/28: International Committee Meeting #2

International Committee is a group of students passionate about international service. Through activities, fundraisers, and educational discussions, we strive to make Cal Rotaract and the Cal campus more aware of international and humanitarian crises. Join International Committee if you’re interested in planning and leading our international service projects!

9/29: Local Committee Meeting #2

Local Committee is one of the four committees in Cal Rotaract devoted to reinforcing Rotary International’s theme of “service above self.” We are committed to this theme by providing service at a local level specifically in the East bay/ Berkeley Area. Help us make an impact in our local community by joining our Local Committee!
