CS294-84: Interactive Device Design, Fall 2013
Björn Hartmann, Paul Wright

A few of my favorite week long design exercises from interactive device design, a course which teaches "concepts and skills required to design, prototype, and fabricate interactive devices."

Text entry device. The full writeup can be found here. To be on display in the CITRIS Tech Museum.

P1010790

Text entry with two thumbsticks. Rubber bands provide restoring force for the thumbsticks.

P1010715

pre-assembly

P1010724

Copper tape on posts in each of the four cardinal directions. These are shorted to ground when they touch the thumbstick, and is read by the microcontroller.

Gesture Recognition (group assignment). The full writeup can be found here.

P1020052

Me and my partner implemented a shooting game to test your quick draw abilities.

P1020054

With period accurate single action fun! (The cams do work!)

P1020840_copy

The device has two sensing methods, an accelerometer to determine the efficacy of your quick draw against a defined ground truth, and a button to determine when the hammer has been released.
