The Undergraduate Major

Honors Program

The basic requirements are the same as those listed above for the regular program, with the additions listed as follows:

1. At least a 3.30 general grade point average and a 3.55 grade point average in the major for admission to the Honors Program in the junior or senior year, and a 3.40 general grade point average and 3.65 grade point average in the major by the time of graduation.

2. A grade of B or higher in Comparative Literature H195 for the writing of an Honors Thesis under the direction of a member of the faculty. Honors students must prepare an Honor's Thesis through enrollment in one or two semesters of Comparative Literature H195.

Award of Honors

The award of Honors in Comparative Literature at Berkeley is not automatic. Completion of the requirements listed above merely guarantees eligibility. The final recommendation is made by the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Comparative Literature after evaluation of the honors thesis and the candidate's total performance in literature.

Strongly Recommended

Honors students who plan to take up graduate study in Comparative Literature or a single literature are urged to begin the study of a third foreign language relevant to their proposed field of graduate study. You should consult your adviser in this respect, and look up the graduate requirements.
