The group takes a moment to pause next to the Bryce Canyon Overlook.

Bryce Canyon became known as the "20 minute stop" to our group for this trip.  Basically, it was on our way to Colorado from Zion National Park that we decided to stop by Bryce Canyon, and since we didn't want to arrive in Denver too late at night (which we did anyways), we stayed for about an hour.  Basically, I'd describe Bryce as the worlds biggest sand castle.  Out of the desert shoot up giant towers of soft rock, that run together like walls.  Looking down from above, they remind me of a rat maze, with all the tourists scurrying around like confused mice... with cameras.  There was this one formation off to the side that looked exactly like a castle.  Heck, if I had to fight off an army myself, I might stick myself on top of one of those rock turrets. =)

Bryce is known for its giant rock spires that fill the valley.

While the peaks in the distance were as seen above, all the closer ones were peaked in snow.  This was my second "twenty minute trip" to Bryce Canyon, the first being about 7 years ago in high school for a family reunion.  That time we went in the middle of summer, and it was HOT.  This time, it was fairly cool out, and the atmosphere was completely different from how I remember our last trip.  Oh, the other thing we did in Bryce was stop at the visitors center (yeah you know it was a short stay when I have to pull out the visitors center as a highlight of Bryce Canyon).  While climbing out of the car after a long car ride was fun, the real highlight was the herd of deer in the meadow down the road.  We drove by, counting around 20, as I remember.... a record for me, and I used to live in the mountains where there were lots of deer.  I managed to get this picture below showing 11 of them, grazing on what is left of the grass.  Neat, huh.

More deer here than anywhere I've ever seen at one time.

Ok, just like this stop was for us, Ill keep this page short for you.  We hopped back into the car and took off for Colorado Christian University in Denver, another 8 hours of driving away.  We'd get in at like 2 am. yay.
