I suspect that towr will leave our midst when his post count hits 10,000. Thoughts?

I doubt it. Not before he starts talking about himself in the third person, anyway. And I expect it'll still take 5 or so month before I get there.

It would seem unlikely to me. But then it would also seem unlikely to me that Icarus would leave these forums in a pique and pull a Goodwin in his parting post... So take my judgment for what it's worth. --SMQ

We can avoid that. We can make a change so that after 9999 posts, the count resets to 0

| Hah, my university life has been "practically over" for 6 years running. Besides, there's more reason to hang out here after university, rather than less. You've gotta use those skills to keep them honed.

Although 10,000 is certainly a milestone, I think it's more impressive that I broke the 10% line this last week. Over 10% of the posts in the forum are mine So supposing my posting rate, and the posting rate of other people, hasn't change, what is the limit of my "share" of posts?

| Under that assumption, you're not even the most prolific poster! (edit: forgot about the database glitch that affected alien/Iceman) Considering the long-term posting rates of "active" Uberpuzzlers (who have posted at least twice this year, as of ~15:00 UTC today): User towr Iceman Grimbal mikedagr8 ThudanBlunder Whiskey Tango Foxtrot denis SMQ Barukh rmsgrey Hippo Eigenray Noke Lieu JiNbOtAk william wu TenaliRaman wu :: forums | | Posts 10109 ~ 3150 5549 1104 3867 1539 1167 1670 2201 2059 676 1750 1320 967 1209 920 101017 | | Registered 10/02 10/06 4/04 7/07 4/03 4/06 12/06 2/05 9/03 4/03 1/07 4/03 2/04 3/05 7/02 6/03 7/02 | | Posts/Month 133 113 96 58 55 45 45 35 34 29 27 25 22 21 15 14 1279 | So assuming these rates are constant, your eventual share as t --> oo is 10.4% to Iceman's 10.6% --SMQ

Have you discounted for the fact that Iceman used to be Alien, and inherited the (approximate) postcount from that account?

Ahh, no, I forgot about that. Looking back he had just made Uberpuzzler when it happened, so we'll dock Iceman a bit over 600 posts. Corrected above. (Alternatively, he states that alien had been about two years old at that point, so if we made that adjustment instead it would drop Iceman down to ~73 posts/month.) --SMQ

Speaking of leaving, im going on a hiatus for a while.(as if i havent for the past few months) until i feel that i deserve the Uberpuzzler rank. Or create a new one for me(and other people) Ive actually been a shell of myself, and im going in a mental "Hibernation" for a while. I'll still check in often. See yah.

I have ~50 posts to hack a "R" into a "D". Which one?

Shouldnt number of posts be considered when calculating average posts per month....... Otherwise some newbie might come and starting posting around 2 posts per day and he will be having 60 per month

| That's not an issue when you only consider "uberpuzzler"s, which have over 600 posts. Still, if you assume postrates are constant (which they aren't), then what's the problem with getting a number of 60 per month for a newbie that posts twice a day? In the long run that's a (numerically) significant share of posts.

| Thats not a problem if above sentences are true. But what if it is a newbie and his post rate is(will) not be constant. I was just asking for a function which takes care of number of posts also.

| Well, since post count says nothing about either the likelihood someone will remain a poster, nor about how the post rate will change, there isn't really anything sensible one can say about it.
