:o It would seem unlikely to me.  But then it would also seem unlikely to me that Icarus would leave these forums in a pique and pull a Goodwin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwin%27s_Law) in his parting post...???:'(  So take my judgment for what it's worth. ;)

We can avoid that. We can make a change so that after 9999 posts, the count resets to 0  ;D

Still can't get over the fact he's gone, huh ? Well, I don't blame you, although, I'd thought towr would miss him the most, since they were the pioneer mods. ( Since I joined, anyway )

Hah, my university life has been "practically over" for 6 years running.

I don't do anything professionally; I'm still a student. Albeit I ought to have finished this degree a month ago, but such is life.

Although 10,000 is certainly a milestone, I think it's more impressive that I broke the 10% line this last week. Over 10% of the posts in the forum are mine ;D


So supposing my posting rate, and the posting rate of other people, hasn't change, what is the limit of my "share" of posts?

Under that assumption, you're not even the most prolific poster! :D (edit: forgot about the database glitch that affected alien/Iceman)

Ahh, no, I forgot about that.  Looking back he had just made Uberpuzzler when it happened, so we'll dock Iceman a bit over 600 posts.  Corrected above.  (Alternatively, he states that alien had been about two years old at that point, so if we made that adjustment instead it would drop Iceman down to ~73 posts/month.)

Shouldnt number of posts be considered when calculating average posts per month.......

Otherwise some newbie might come and starting posting around 2 posts per day and he will be having 60 per month

That's not an issue when you only consider "uberpuzzler"s, which have over 600 posts.

Thats not a problem if above sentences are true. But what if it is a newbie and his post rate is(will) not be constant.

I was just asking for a function which takes care of number of posts also.

Well, since post count says nothing about either the likelihood someone will remain a poster, nor about how the post rate will change, there isn't really anything sensible one can say about it.
