Neglecting Family and Friends

One might argue that neglecting family and friends is not necessarily unfavorable because the web provides a new social venue. However, online relationships lack some of the dimensions characteristic of real-world relationships (Dreyfus, 2001, p.58). Humans rely on physical proximity, pheromones, and non-verbal gestures which are not available in online interaction. Furthermore, this neglecting of famly and friends phenomenon is not always accompanied by a gain in online relationships. Work, videogames, pornography, and other addictive habits can replace social interaction.
