About > Education: The reason I'm so learned

Here is a (sorta) complete list of schools I have attended:

Lowell High School - (1992-1996) - [Link]

Famous for:
Academics - Was supposedly rank high in public high schools in the US. Number one high school in San Francisco. There were strict entrance requirements. Only the cream of the crop was enrolled.
Carol Channing - Famous LHS alum. They have an auditorium dedicated to her!
Joceyln Enriquez - Famous Filipino pop star.
Stuck up Nerds - A whole school full of them!

What I should have learned:
- English, Math, Science, Social Science, Art
- How to be a good student. Good study habits.
- Abstinence. All about how STDs can ruin your life. How sex is so bad.
- How to swim good.

What I really learned there:
- How to get snubbed by cliques.
- How it feels to be not cool.
- How not to make friends.
- How to play MTG.
- How to be a nerd.
- Definately how not to swim!

What I got out of it:
- High School Diploma
- Low self-esteem

University of California, Berkeley - (1997-2001) - [Link]

Famous for:
Academics - High ranking public college in the US. Produced many Nobel Laureates. Many famous people "teach" there.
Free Speech Movement - Protesting students in the 1960's sparked a revolution with themes including anti-war, academic freedom, civil liberties and a whole bunch of other goodie goodie things.
The Big Game - The (non-sexual) climax of the Cal-Stanford rivalry. Usually followed by trash throwing, mascot punching, all out brawls. (And it doesn't matter who wins!)
The Campanile - Berkeley's overcompensation for something. Big,giant, phallic clock.
Osky - The scariest mascot I have ever seen.

What I should have learned:
- An array of diverse subjects that would contribute to a well rounded education - consisting of 7 breadth classes.
- Computer science and how to program.
- Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.
- How to be a successful, happy human being.

What I really learned there:
- Coffee does not help when you haven't slept for 3 days straight.
- It's easy to cheat by just changing variable names!
- Never tell your ideas to someone before a presentation because they will just steal your ideas and say it was their own.
- How to read other people's code and then copy their code.
- That good lab partners are the coolest! Especially if you're stupid.
- Curves are your friend. And how you do really depends on how everyone else did. You're not stupid until everyone else gets two standard deviations higher than you!
- Taking math for fun is stupid.
- That Top Dog closes at 2am.

What I got out of it:
- BA degree in MCB with emphasis in BMB (see above.)
- Minor in Computer Science
- One of the worse roommates in my life! A violent, knife collecting, no-clean underwear, messy, stuck-up, jerk of a roommate. (And it wasn't Ben, Jose, or Humbeto.)

City College of San Francisco - (F'1996, S'2002) - [Link]

Famous for:
Low Prices - How can you go wrong when it's only $11 a unit.
Diversity - Old, young, men, women, gay, straight, and people of all races. Always one of each in the classes.
Continuing Education - Where else can adults come to learn about stuff?

What I should have learned:
- Programming Stuff.
- Engineering stuff.
- What college feels like.
- What I wanted to be when I grow up.

What I really learned there:
- FORTRAN.
- That if you really need to go to the bathroom during a final, you should just finish the final as fast as you can and leave. Because chances are, you will do well on it.

What I got out of it:
- Straight A's

San Jose State University- (2003-Present) - [Link]

Famous for:
Commuter School - Nobody wants to stay there.
Engineering? - Uh.. it's acreditted, I think.
Spartan's football - oh wait, they're not famous. No one goes to their games.

What I should be learning:
- How to be a good engineer.
- Mechanical Engineering stuff.

What I am really learning there:
- Mechanical Engineering stuff.
- That there are a only a few girls in Engineering.
- Girl engineers are hard to work with!
- How to resist falling asleep in class.
