Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is the delegated arm of the UC Berkeley Faculty Senate.   It addresses academic issues of interest to faculty and students.   The Council reviews academic policy changes and submits them to the schoolwide faculty as needed.

Curriculum Committee

This Committee reviews School of Public Health curricula; including, in particular new proposed courses.

Research Committee

Working with the Associate Dean for Research this Committee advises faculty, staff and students with regard to extramural research funding opportunities, changes in research grant procedures, and research services available on campus and within the School.   It also obtains small grants for student and faculty research support, including endowments where possible.   It also oversees the Schoolwide Research symposia held each Fall and Spring.

Multilcultural Opportunities Committee

This Committee is charged with the development, facilitation and monitoring of diversity goals and activities of the School.   It works closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Division Heads concerning faculty and student recruitment, appointment and admissions.

Wellness Letter Advisory Fund Committee

The Committee members provide consultation and advice to the Dean on the use of the Wellness Letter Fund, whose monies are generated by the sale of the Wellness Letter.

Communications Committee

This Committee advises the External Relations/Development communications team on content for the School of Public Health magazine and newsletter and  occasionally on other external communication issues.   The Committee typically meets twice a year for a one-hour meeting and occasionally there is email communication.   This committee advises the Dean’s Office on the Web Site, and related forms of communication.

Needed:   The Dean invites 6-8 faculty members representing different Schoolwide  perspectives and an alumni representative to serve on the committee.   One MPH student and one Doctoral student.

Deans Advisory

The DAC is composed of all Division Heads and the Director of the JMP program.   It works with all of the Deans in overseeing the development and implementation of administrative policies and practices to achieve the School’s  mission, goals, and objectives.

MPH Management Committee 

This Committee oversees the MPH degree program, including admissions and curriculum.   It makes policy recommendations to the Curriculum Committee.

DrPH Management Committee

This Committee oversees the DrPH degree program, including admissions and curriculum.   It makes policy recommendations to the Curriculum Committee.

Has 3 seats for a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Yr DrPH.
**DrPH students will hold elections in fall

Henrik Blum Award Committee

The Henrik Blum Award was first presented for the first time at the May 11, 1986 Commencement Ceremony.   The recipient will be a graduating student  who has demonstrated commitment to social responsibility and social change as  exemplified by Professor Emeritus Blum.   The Committee is charted with refining the selection process and choosing the recipient.

2011 Class Pledge Committee

This Committee plans a pledge to the School of Public Health from the graduating class.

Has seats for 3 graduating MPHs and 1 Undergrad.
**Will make this available to general student body in the fall

Public Health Alumni Association Board of Directors

To build and strengthen personal and professional relationships among public  health alumni and students of the University of California, Berkeley.   To  promote mutual help and communication leading to the improvement in professional work among public health alumni of the University of California,  Berkeley, in concert with the mission of the School of Public Health.  The Public Health Alumni Association Board serves as a liaison between the  School of Public Health and its alumni.   Its committee structure involves  alumni in the Association’s annual events including a Reunion/Brunch, American Public Health Association activities and “Get Acquainted Night.”   In  addition, the Public Health Alumni Association plays an active role in the  School’s Annual Giving Program, both in raising funds from alumni for the School and in selecting student scholarship recipients.

SPH Research Support Committee

This committee promotes research activities through the support, organization, and promotion of the School’s Annual Research Symposium and of the School’s Annual Student Poster Presentation, in addition to providing a forum for discussion of research topics, training for research administration, and support to the Faculty Committee on Research.
