Here's the riddle.... I turn polar bears white and I will make you cry. I make guys have to pee and girls comb their hair. I make celebrities look stupid and normal people look like celebrities. I turn pancakes brown and make your champane bubble. If you sqeeze me, I'll pop. If you look at me, you'll pop. Can you guess the riddle?

no its not 'pressure' good guess but its not.. pressure doesn't make polar bears white.... the answer is: no. simply NO. the question is 'can you guess this riddle?' and thats it... no you can't. done!

Somehow that's not very satisfying (some other people might have wanted to have a bash, so maybe you should hide the spoiler part of that post?)

@SpaceMonkey: I really don't want to eat those pancakes. =) on Apr 14th, 2006, 5:37pm, graphia wrote:I'm really not sure, but pressure? |
| I like graphia's answer for 8 out of 9 lines. That's good enough for me. I turn polar bears white and I will make you cry. Pressure in the sense of something emotionally demanding or stressful. Stress is alleged to turn one's hair white (Yes, a polar bear's hair is already white...) and people do cry under stress. I make guys have to pee Yep, sure does. You really start to feel it around the 6th beer. and girls comb their hair. Peer pressure. Pressure to look pretty. I make celebrities look stupid Put a camera in their face without a script and let the magic happen. and normal people look like celebrities. Everyday people have moments of greatness in times of great distress. Selfless acts of heroism and the like. I turn pancakes brown Pressing on one side with a spatula. and make your champane bubble. Difference in air pressure when it's opened. If you sqeeze me, I'll pop. Squeezing something pressurized it might burst? (Don't know?) If you look at me, you'll pop. The capillaries surrounding your eyes bursting while SCUBA diving due to the difference in pressure and your goggles. I've never been diving, but think I've heard/seen something to that effect.

Except for the squeeze part, God might work.. Although, perhaps God does pop if you squeeze him.. Of course, we're not asked to guess the answer to the riddle, but to guess the riddle... It might also just be another riddle that doesn't have a real ansers.

The line that didn't fit for me was: "If you squeeze me, I'll pop" I was thinking in really general terms that a container with contents under pressure might burst if enough pressure was applied to the container. Just seemed like a wierd fit. Maybe a balloon or something along those lines.

That's rubbish, I did guess the riddle so "no" is clearly incorrect As a What Am I riddle the main question is implicit.

| "Yes" would be the correct answer. Unless there is a riddle and a question. The question is about the riddle and not part of the riddle.

the answer could be your 'eyes '. if you squeeze them they'll pop.. or your imagination.. if you want to imagine it's popping.

i am just a kid and i am smarter than all the stupid harvard graduates and adults who think they're all that and are trying to figure this out by acting all scientific and saying that its pressure or acting all religious and saying its god. well let me tell you all something. pressure wouldn't work because it does not make polar beaers white. also when you say the pressure in the champagne bottle makes it over flow, its in a different context when you say that it makes girls comb there because of the pressure to look pretty. i also know its not the answer because how would a bunch of kindergarden kids be able to figure that out? god would not work because, again, most kindergardeners would not say that. when i was in kindergarden, (and i would remember cause it was only 7 years ago), i hardly knew anything about god. neither did my friends. we also have no proof that god even exists. and lastly, how would you be able to squeeze god and make him/her pop? so the god idea doesnt make sense. there are a lot of other crazy ideas that people have been trying to put into play and they all don't work. i am positive that the answer to the riddle is when you answer a riddle you are supposed to answer the question that is asked (normally at the end). the question that is asekd at the end is "hidden: | can you answer this riddle | "? hidden: | its a yes or no question | you crazy people! the answer is

All wrong. The answer comes from a poem... hidden: | The time has come, winter is here and those yellow bears disapear. The time has past as man looks back with a sigh and a tear in his eye. As time is held boys cross their legs but of course the toilet begs As time marches on Girls loose their blush and swap a comb for their brush As time passes For those held high their end is nigh As time catches up Everyone is equal when we get to the final sequal As time turns Without it we have flour and water With it we have breakfast for my daughter As time revolves How does one turn water and wine into something so fine As time runs out The more in a minute you try and squeeze the less you can do with ease. As time ticks All the time that has past man cannot comprehand something so vast. | So, now you all know.

| met·a·phor Pronunciation Key (mt-fôr, -fr) n. 1. A figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison, as in “a sea of troubles” or “All the world's a stage” (Shakespeare). 2. One thing conceived as representing another; a symbol: “Hollywood has always been an irresistible, prefabricated metaphor for the crass, the materialistic, the shallow, and the craven” (Neal Gabler) Cchris: Fully awesome.

Well, to figure that out, I tried looking up that riddle on a search engine and just found pages like this, but finally found a poem I decided to read, and it matched up and all made sense. Plus, think about it: the only thing that can both make guys pee and turn polar bears white (they aren't fully white at birth) would obviously be time, or some variation.

Sheesh. Looks like I need to review my own list of most common answers to "What am I" questions. "Time" is high on the list, and yet I never thought to apply it to this riddle.

OKOK Here it is the ANSWER!! The answer to the riddle is NO! The question is Can YOU GUESS THE RIDDLE? The answer is NO! 97% of Harvard graduates think they can and 84% of kindergarten students know they can't Now take away the CAN YOU GUESS THE RIDDLE? part and the statistics cuz that's is about the CAN YOU GUESS THE RIDDLE part and the awswer is.... Salt water give objects more buoyancy. Polar bears swim all the time. Their hollow clear hair appears white. Its hollow to better maximize the buoyancy of the oceanic salt water. Next... Who has ever gotten salt in their eyes? Yeah... you cry. Pee... duh. When you pee your body loses salt. when you eat something salty you drink alot more and then have to pee. sweat and oil contain high ammounts of salt which causes hair to become dull, and tangle easier. ever get hair in your mouth when working out... its salty. This is great... when famous people sweat its because they are screwing up and when we sweat its because were working hard. the harder you sweat the harder it seems like youre working. This is the tricky part... Butter has a high ammount of salt (go lick some) and you have to fry pancakes in butter or margarine. thats why they brown. Fry anything in butter and it browns. The champagne thing is sneaky... Add salt to champagne and watch it fizz like crazy. hell, add salt or sugar to soda even.. it fizzes like crazy. Squeeze a salt grain and it explodes along its fracture (cleavage) lines If you put salt in your eyes they eventually dry out and erupt because the skin of the retina splits and the inner fluid drains out. SO IN CONCLUSTION THE ANSWER IS SALT!!!!

A couple of notes... Although the riddle may have been based on the poem about time, it wasn't done very well, and the answer to the riddle can not be time. Kindergarten students would not guess time. Time does not work with a lot of parts in the riddle, unless you have an extremely vivid imagination. Towards the end of the riddle, "If you squeeze me, I'll pop. If you look at me, you'll pop.", is a separate riddle in itself that has been around for many years. The answer to that riddle is "bubble". Squeeze it and it pops. Look at it and you see your reflection on it, so when it pops you pop. Only in a VERY vague sense could it remotely relate to time, so again, time does not work. http://teensetc.com/0F/0D/BI/index.shtml

| The "kindergartners" thing is just a story to make people feel superior to the smartest academics, I've seen it on all kinds of riddles with a trick answer - it's a really common thing, if you look through a lot of urban legends you'll find examples of where ordinary people (or yes, even children) outsmart these supposedly extremely intelligent types. It doesn't mean anything.
