Logic Text book

A colleague has asked me for recommendations on a fairly hefty Logic text book.

I said I couldn't, but knew a bunch of folk who could.

Any advice?

What kind of logic is he interested in, and how hefty? Does he just want an introduction to many different kinds of logics (e.g. propositional, first-order, modal, (typed) lambda calculus) and methods of using them (e.g. tableaus, resolution).
Not that I'll be able recommend a book even with that additional information -- because my only general logic book is in Dutch, and the rest are syllabi -- but perhaps it will help someone else make a recommendation.

One of the classic texts has to be "Introduction To Logic" by Copi and Cohen. I think that it's currently in its 13th edition (I have the 12th edition). It's certainly not cheap to buy and don't be fooled by the word "Introduction" in the title. Their idea of introducing the reader to logic is more than most undergraduates would experience. It always starts with the basics, building from the ground up, but in every topic it will take the reader to the edge, and sometimes beyond, their intellctual comfort zone. It can often be a challenging read, but it is superbly written with helpful examples and exercises.

ISBN of the 13th ed. paperback (from 2009) is 9780131364196. It doesn't seem to be too expensive; 60 euro for 688 pages isn't bad (that's the price at my local bookstore).
[e]amazon.co.uk is a bit cheaper, even, with £46.24[/e]

It certainly has been a long time; last post before this thread was 28 Nov 2008! Shocked It's nice to see a number of the familiar veterans are still around.

School finishes for the Summer break next Wednesday. Yay!  Cool
