When Sir John gets off the train he is always met by his punctual chauffeur. However, one day Sir John catches an earlier train than usual and arrives at his station x minutes early. As it is a nice day, he begins to walk home along the road. The chauffeur starts out at the usual time and is rather surprised to see his boss on the road already walking home. He picks him up and drives home, arriving y minutes earlier than usual. For how many minutes had Sir John been walking?

By drawing a time/position graph it is easy to find out that Sir John was walking for x-y/2 minutes.

Well, I didn't draw a graph, but arrived at the same answer as you, Leonid.
