Going up or down?

An intelligent and open-eyed man in topnotch health prepares to go straight to his girlfriend. He lives on the 15th floor of a 30-story building. She lives in a secluded house. He steps out of his flat and enters an elevator on the 15th floor. The elevator is in perfect order. He presses the 30th button. Why?

Because the ordinal position of an item (button) in a list and the item's contents (floor number) are two different things? In other words the button's position in this particular cabin of this particular elevator may be "30" (if/when somehow counted) but the number of the floor in this building this cabin will go to when that button is pressed is "1"?

There's nothing unusual about the elevator control panel.

It could have been a penthouse.

I guess I should've said that the rendezvous is at her house.

A small penthouse in the middle of a large terrace could be described as secluded.
