six men with no names?

This is a bit hashed and rushed, My head's a bit mashed and crushed. I'll bet that you'll get it Yet I still set it. Six men were singled out, and asked what they did. "I have the noblest most aristocratic of professions" added the first. "I hang around musicians" was beaten out of the second. "I work with food, but I'm not a chef" said the third, after a serious grilling. "I wear blue, but I'm not a Smurf. Except I am, but you know what I mean" piped up the fourth. "I follow up on the fourth's findings" said the fifth, caught out. "Manual labourer. I've no time for games." said the sixth. So, what were their names?

One of those jobs is completely correct. Another is correct, though maybe too specific. Once you have a few jobs sorted, you'll get their names, I promise.

4th and 5th are neither Mario, nor Luigi. Plumber was not the intended answer. The 4th clue wouldn't work in WA or the NT, but would in NSW and VIC- or the UK, and much of Europe. America...? I suspect that it varies from place to place. The 5th clue invovles a pesky pun.

| Well in America here we know of the Smurfs cartoon, but I think it's lost in translation if it refers to anything besides the cartoon...

yep, smurfs here are only cartoons too. However, this fellas name makes him... a Smurf. And his job has been mentioned (by Grimbal), but not how I'd anticipate. (oh, does work in WA- could have sworn they didn't wear blue...?) (edit) So that means this guy is a policeman... but he "piped".. any word linking pipes and policeman? (/edit)

2 and 3 are defiantly (and definately) correct. 1- not what I was expecting, and therefore wrong- you'll see why shortly.

| Well, in larger police departments there is sometimes a policeman that plays Amazing Graze on bagpipes at the funeral of a fellow policeman killed in the line of duty... that's all I got at the moment.

The connection between a policeman and piping is copper. So if that's the pesky pun, might the fifth clue be miner?

| HA! If only. The first is based on a pun as well. In my defence, I didn't come up with it. Mel Brookes did. For a crossword, I'd have to finish 5 with "we hear" or some such.

Could the first one be a joker or jester? Aristocrats liked to keep them around, and they also like to talk about aristocrats Not sure what to make of the "added the first" bit though, nor have I ever heard of joker or jester being someone's name. What if the 5th one was Smith?

This really isn't going as smoothly as I thought it would. The 6th one was called Victor. You can tell. It's written on his shirt.
