A fickle kitten slowly slips Its raspy tongue around my rim The joyous circle, brightly wet Licks tender faces, feet and skin The kitten grows and sharpens fangs I see his teeth will test my brim A nibble tests the sturdy edge, Finds timber, bones, and meat within He hisses death and claws my face My presence here enrages him His ripping, tearing, frothy teeth Crush earth and stone, rip flesh and limb A pretty face and cozy fur Make syren purrs the bleakest hymn A laughing meal, all light and joy Will stroke the kitten, dark and grim

Hint The quiet kitten licks my feet As days of summer ebb and flow An angry kitten's fangs and paws Push heavy buildings to and fro

Sound like some kind of natural phenomenon. I was thinking sea or ocean, but I'm not sure..

I keep thinking I've got it, then reading the next line and finding it doesn't fit well! Some verses make it seem like A storm, with the joyous circle being the sun or a cloud or something, while others make it seem more like the sea, with it's frothy teeth, and the tide breaking against things. Perhaps it is a tidal wave?.

I see a pier, jetty, or dam as the kitten is clearly water or the ocean. [edit] I'm a bit short of time to dig into this right now. [/edit]

A ship doth sail on the sea When a storm hits suddenly Amidst the storm, the sailors doubt As the ship is tossed about. The hull can't stand against its wrath The ship doth plunge, sinking fast Once the sea has done its deed The calm returns, a beautiful scene

I'd offer wind, but the hard work was done already... I'd then offer the sun as well..

Pier is probably closest but many fine answers here. Anything shore related would work
