Title: Celebrations

Entry:

This was by far my least stressful day since my accident.  I was awaken from my slumber at 5:00a by my parents who were driving back to SoCal.  I crawled out of bed to hug my mom and bid farewell to my father who was returning to Taiwan later in the day from LAX.  After I saw my parents off and locked the door, I returned to my warm waiting bed.

I eventually got up for good sometime mid-morning.  I spent the rest of  morning watching "Con Air" until may mom called around 12:30p to let me know that she and my father had arrived home safely.  The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to watching "The Wedding Singer" and tidying my apartment.

The intersting part of the day didn't occur until later in the evening when I attended Josh's party, in which one of the themes was "Erick is damn lucky."  Max picked me and drove me to the party around 7:30p.  Due to various technical difficulties, the biggest of which was an empty propane tank, the party didn't commence until much later in the evening.  If I remember correctly, dinner wasn't served until 11:00p.

The most memorable part of the party was seeing some people I hadn't seen in years and meeting a handful of new people.  I had a great time chatting with old friends and getting to know new ones.  I had a lot of fun at the party and I was proud to show off my limited guitar abilities by strumming a few chords.

Reflecting back on the party, I now realize that had it not been for the accident, I wouldn't have had the opportunity get to know some great people at the party, let alone meet them.  I wouldn't have had the chance to teach some people a few basic guitar chords.  I wouldn't have had the chance to see how some of my friends are when they are somewhat imparied by their drinks.  Instead, I would have been on the road returning from SoCal.  It's interesting to watch how things work for the best.

Back to the party now, I felt in good spirits the entire evening and didn't really allow any negative thoughts to invade my mind.  I must admit that the small quantities of alcohol I consumed helped my mood.  Josh had asked me afterwards if the celebration was appropriate for my mood and I told him it was.  The party was a great escape, if only for a short time, from everything that was on my mind, everything I was worried about, and everything I still had to do.  Although this was my very first night alone after the accident, the party and the alcohol made it quite easy for me to fall asleep without any concerns.
