Bellas Artes & Alameda

The Palacio de Bellas Artes is a Beaux Arts-style opera house built at the start of the 20th century. The Alameda, right beside it, is the oldest park in Mexico City (not counting Chapultepec, which is really outside the city). It is so popular that cities all over Mexico named themselves, if not their parks, "Alameda", which is why Berkeley today sits in Alameda County, California... it was "Alta California" back then. "Álamo" means a poplar or aspen tree. In the Torre Latinoamericana gallery there is a picture of the Alameda from the tower's observation deck.
