2020 Virtual Summit

Our 2019 Summit was the first-annual Summit of OWN IT at Berkeley. The full-day Summit included three panels; Taking Care of Business, Join the Wave, and Investing in Women Leaders, and a breakout session where everyone who came had time to ask questions and have authentic interactions with our speakers. We finished the Summit with the Keynote Address from Rosie Rios, 43rd Treasurer of the United States.

We had the wonderful privilege of spending a night during Fall 2019 hearing about Diane Dwyer’s experiences in the field of journalism and the professional world in general.
Diane grew up in San Francisco and the Peninsula with six brothers and sisters, and she credits the Irish gift of storytelling for her success in journalism and teaching. She’s a faculty member at the Berkeley-Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley (her alma mater) and has taught there for the past twelve years. Diane also worked at KTVU-Channel 2 and NBC Bay Area for 20+ years. She is a two-time Emmy award winner and has received awards from the New York Film Festival, Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists and others. Diane also runs her own media consulting business with clients in industries ranging from pet retail to nano-technology.

Cecelia Wogan-Silva was OWN IT at Berkeley’s first-ever speaker and, since, has been incredibly helpful in making OWN IT what it is today!
Cecelia is a Cal alumna and is currently the Global Director of Creative Development at Google. She pioneered a global movement, Women@Google, dedicated to empowering the female employees of Google, as well as advocating for gender equity.
We were thrilled to have Cecelia come speak with us and answer questions about her experiences as an esteemed businesswoman in a workplace with such a small percentage of women colleagues.
