Announcement from the Execs:

Hi everyone,

In light of the recent ‘shelter-in-place’ policy implemented by Bay Area counties as well as the decision by Carol Christ to move all classes online until the end of the semester to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we regret to announce that Cal Rotaract too, will be cancelling all meetings and upcoming events through the end of the semester.

It is truly unfortunate that our semester is coming to such a premature end because many of our officers have been working hard to bring you exciting events like Interact Stayover and Spring Banquet, as well as the many service events and fellowship socials that we have almost every weekend. For many of us, Cal Rotaract is deeply interwoven with the rest of our college life and there is no modicum of doubt that having this aspect of our life suddenly yanked away is going to be unsettling. There were so many friendships, connections, and bonds that were only just flourishing when this pandemic hit us.

Nevertheless, we would still like to do the best we can to engage in service and help at organizations wherever it is possible to do so remotely. In the upcoming weeks, we will be offering service projects that can be done online as well as mini in-person events for those of you still in the area. If you have an idea for a project we could all collaborate on, please do not hesitate to reach out to us or any officer. While such projects certainly do not replace the interactions we love having in person, these provide a means for us to continue having an impact under these crippling circumstances.

Finally, we would like to end by thanking you all for the memories we have had this semester. It has truly been a pleasure serving as your execs and we are so excited to see you once again when college resumes. We’d also like to leave you with the words of C.S Lewis when asked about the dawn of the atomic age: “If we are all going to be destroyed by [this pandemic], let [it] find us doing sensible and human thingsーpraying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music…ーnot huddled together like frightened sheep. They may break our bodies, but they need not dominate our minds”

Yours in service,
Nikita Dhar, Nola Vu, Dylan Supencheck, & Yash Chainani
