About

What is Sigma Iota Rho?

Sigma Iota Rho is a national Honors Society for International Studies founded in 1984 and headquartered at the University of Pennsylvania. Established at UC Berkeley in the Fall of 2012, our chapter offers opportunities to closely interact with fellow IAS students, alumni, and faculty, attend speaking and professional development events, and the opportunity to be published in the national peer-reviewed Journal of International Relations. We were recently awarded the Chapter Spotlight Award from the National Organization, which is given to the chapter that best exemplifies passion for, engagement with, and academic excellence in international studies.

Who are Sigma Iota Rho members?

Sigma Iota Rho consists of the best and brightest students in the IAS program. We have students from all IAS majors, including Political Economy, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Development Studies, and with many regions, topics, and disciplines of interest. Many, but not all, write an honors thesis and graduate with honors in the major and department. We have five executives who guide the overall direction of the chapter, but a majority of our events are planned and implemented by our members, who are divided into committees with various responsibilities (Communications, External Relations, and Professional Development). Each Committee is led by an appointed Director.
