Article I – Name

The Classical Forum (TCF)

Article II – Purpose

The Classical Forum is dedicated to creating a space where people with an interest in classical civilizations can gather to discuss, listen, learn, and enjoy.  While directly associated with the Classics department at UC Berkeley, the Forum promotes interdepartmental exchange and collaboration.

Article III – Membership

Only currently registered students, faculty, and staff may be active members in a registered student organization.  Only active members may vote or hold office.

Off-campus participants, including alumni, are considered non-active members.  Non-active members are encouraged to advise current staff and participate in meetings but do not hold titles or make decisions on behalf of the organization.

We will not haze according to California State Law.

We will not restrict membership based upon race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy (including pregnancy, childbirth, and medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth), physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer related or genetic characteristics), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services (including membership, application for membership, performance of service, application for service, or obligation for service in the uniformed services).

Any undergraduate student at UC Berkeley may join the Forum as a member.  At the end of every year, the Forum nominates and votes on two members to hold the Princeps position for the next year, and a 2/3 majority will rule.

The need for more positions (currently Social Media Coordinator, Event Planner, Faculty Liaison, and Museum Contact) is determined at the discretion of the Princeps, and will be determined by volunteer, or if there is more interest in a role than can be accommodated for, the process will occur by nomination and a 2/3 majority rule.

Article V – Meetings

The Forum meets at least twice a semester, at the beginning and the end.  Additional meetings and events are determined and called by the Princeps.

There is no quorum.

There will not be a call for special emergency meetings.

Members will be notified by e-mail regarding meeting times and locations.

Article Vi – Constitutional Amendments

Any member may propose an amendment to the Constitution by means of brief verbal or written request.  Any proposal must be voted on within a week’s time.  Members will be notified by e-mail if an amendment is to be voted upon.

An amendment will need a 2/3 majority vote from active members in order to pass.

All amendments, additions or deletions to this document must be filed with the LEAD Center at lead@berkeley.edu, or LEAD Center at 432 Eshleman Hall.

Article VII – Dissolution

Dissolution will be proposed by any member, and decided upon by a 2/3 majority vote from active members to pass.  All active members must vote.

All unspent ASUC funds shall remain the property of the ASUC.

If the organization is ASUC or GA Sponsored, all unspent ASUC funds shall return to the ASUC; all Graduate Assembly funds shall return to the Graduate Assembly. If the organization is defunct for five (5) or more years, any privately obtained funds (including any funds left in miscellaneous accounts) shall be donated to the ASUC.
