What is "this"?

I can be this, and you can be this.  And, yes, we can be this.  He can't be this and she can't be this.   And no, they can't be this. Dogs can't be this, but cats can.  And a kitten can't be this, but a puppy can.  Givers can't be this, but beggars can.  And humility can't be this, but greed can. Not even peace can be this, but fear can.  What is "this?"

Yikes. I've heard this one before. I'd be surprised if anyone genuinely solves it on his or her own ...

Hmm. I've heard some variations of this that latched on to doubled letters or something, but not this one in particular (no pun intended)

Summarizing because I read things easier this way:
Yes: I, you, we, cats, a puppy, beggars, greed, fear
No: he, she, they, dogs, a kitten, givers, humility, peace

Well, I just looked it up for those dying to know...

All the "yes" words can be typed with one hand on a computer keyboard in the home position.

I personally don't like this puzzle.

"This" is a word.  That's one answer.  Not a very good one (since I guessed it), but it's an answer.  I decided to use that answer as it reminded me of that riddle entitled "What is the third word in the English Language."  It used useless information to throw you off the main point of the riddle, and that's what I think this riddle is trying to do, also.

I'm with you DrOctopus.  I had no chance  Sad.  I gave it a good go though and am satisfied that there was not much I could have done, other than to take certain lessons.
