I don't know if the plan was to take these cryptics one at a time, but a couple more came to me that I'd like to try out on you.
Shades of serenaded young ladies (10)
East meets West with honor (6)
And I'm still looking for an answer to
To be or not to be East to West a man yet not a man. (5)
(I know I've changed the wording a couple times. If anyone figures it out, tell me how you think it should have been phrased)

I say, that is an excellent idea.
Perhaps we should create the final partially filled grid now itself with spaces for other clues (i.e instead of . in your ascii image, let us fix the grid by putting in _ at the right spots)

I think we maybe need to wait until these clues are solved, and let the future clue writers find a good spot for a good word. There's also probably a much more efficient (or easily expandable) grid than the one I came up with.
All those dots are unfortunate, but when I tried printing it with just spaces, the forum software insisted on reformatting multiple spaces. If someone knows how to correct that, it might look better.

I added a few more clues that I think are fairly simple, to help you figure out the first letter of the unsolved clues. I hope people haven't given up on these.
I also realized that in cryptic clues some types of clues have to be across, some have to be down. I didn't correctly follow that guideline in this grid, so a future reworking of the grid might be necessary.

I wrote a quick image generator to help us view the grid better.
The url used was:
[edit]Removed long url. Please see the url of above image.[/edit]
In the url you give the width, height and for each clue number, you give the row, column, across letters, down letters. The usage should be pretty clear. (I expect bugs, so please let me know if you find something weird).
For example, for clue 1, we give 1=1,12,,ALOUD.
As the grid changes, all we would need to change is the url.

So here is a new grid (using the image generator, so that it is easy to create partially filled grid images {see url of the image to guess usage}):
Let us call this GRID2. Any clues given for this grid should reference this name in case we have multiple grids being discussed at the same time.
Let us try to stick to this grid and start giving clues which fit with previous ones.

I think it is robot based on an earlier version which was given...
So i think the grid looks like:
(Please pardon the attempt at trying to provide the hide, select to unhide functionality for images. Barely works and that too only with IE  . If someone has any ideas, please let me know)
