Its 00:00 hrs on 31st December, 2007. One second makes it 2008.

You are on the right track. By the way, my solution doesn't use good English. I just wanted it to sound like the other riddle.

Ok, if you can say that a second makes it 2008 from 2007, that also means that a day can make it 2008, then a month, etc. I am thinking of one unit, i.e. a year. But anything can be added to anything to make eight from seven, so I think it would be one portion or unit of something that is equivalent to the rest of the units that make up the previous seven.

Maybe "1. of me makes eight from seven " would be better English.

| Out of curiosity, is it in German, French, Italian, or Romansh?

OK, due to lack of interest, here is the solution. 1. of January makes 2008 from 2007.
