November 25, 2009 - Cutting Greenhouse Pollutants Could Directly Save Millions of Lives Worldwide
Tackling climate change by reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse emissions will have major direct health benefits in addition to reducing the risk of climate change, especially in low-income countries, according to a series of six papers appearing today in the British journal The Lancet.

November 1, 2009 - $645,000 Rebate Check from PG&E
UC Berkeley implemented a HVAC Retrofit projects under the 2006–08 UC/CSU/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership Program. The total cost for completing the four energy efficiency measures listed below was $873,000. PG&E pro-vided an incentive amount of $645,000 for the project that is estimated to save 2.3 Million kWhs and 90,000 therms per year.

Arun Majumdar, who currently heads a project at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs to help India reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, has been nominated by President Barack Obama to head the newly-created Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy at the Department of Energy.

Students at two East Bay high schools will be well prepared to ride the “green collar” job wave. Berkeley Lab is partnering with Oakland Technical High School and El Cerrito High School in their Green Academies.

July 27, 2009 - Lisa Bauer honored as UC’s 2009 ‘Sustainability Champion’
Lisa Bauer has cast a long shadow as manager of Campus Recycling and Refuse Services at Berkeley for more than a decade. When she landed in Bear Territory in 1997, Bauer brought a ton of energy, not an iota of timidity, and an ambitious vision for raising funds, building a campus constituency, maybe even launching an environmental center for teaching and student activities.

April 6, 2009 - Now Banned on Campus: Bottled Water

Universities around the nation have begun ending bottle water sales from vending machines and campus stores.


March 19, 2009 - A New Garden Grows at Berkeley

Berkeley students are building a Victory Garden just downhill from Evans Hall and near Memorial Glade. The garden will be done just in time for celebration of Earth day.
