Subject: [cal-libertarians] Let's Get it on!

Fellow Cal Libs,
   Here's what's up:
I have become a signutory via the internet. You should too.
We definately need to get the registration crap overwith ASAP. This year we
will be storing the table/literature in storage space at Eshelmen Hall, so
instead of having to track down each other we can just leave it there. Once
agian, we (I'm pretty sure) will be getting a couple hundred in ASUC
funding, so save those recipts. By the way, I have the table. My best
times to table are MW at noon. Because of this is such a hot political
season with the Presidential elections and all, I think we should meet every
week this fall. We can't afford to lose any time between now and November.
In addition, this is the time in which politics is the most fun! Our first
meeting will be Thursday evening, August 31 at 7 in Cafe Strada. I believe
that Thursday is the best day to meet because people (including myself) are
in a good mood then b/c it is almost Friday. If any of you disagree, we can
decide to make it Wednesday or whatever from then on.

This will be my last semester as Cal Libertarians President b/c I will
graduate this spring, so start thinking about whether you would like to take
over. On that note, if you are or would like to be actively involved in Cal
Libertarians activities, you may want to join the Cal Libertarians Leaders
Listserve. To join indicate your desire to our webmaster, Kevin,
peterson@ocf.berkeley.edu.

Last week, I sent Harry Browne an email trying to sell him on the benefits
of making a campaign stop at Cal (see below). His campaign people responded
indicating that my invitation is being considered by his scheduling people.
Stay tuned.

This would be awesome if we could pull it off. There is no reason why
not. If Harry can't make it, then LP US Senate candidate Gail Lightfoot
almost certainly will. I will soon send her a similiar message. I will
also soon purchase some updated literature including Harry Browne stuff to
hand out at the table and elsewhere.
                                               Let's get it on!
                                    Cal Libs Pres, Mark Goodman
Hi Harry,
My name is Mark Goodman and I am the current President of the Cal
Libertarians, the Libertarian student organization on the UC Berkeley
campus. I joined the LP seven years ago at the age of 14 and was the
President and co-founder of a Young Libertarians Club at my high school. I
am extremely fired up about the 2000 Libertarian campaigns. I am writing to
you because I sincerely believe that the Berkeley campus would be an
excellent place for you to make a campaign appearance. Here's why:

  1) Since Berkeley has a rich tradition of political activism, political
activities here are usually well-attended by the general student and local
population. That is, we would attract a large number of interested
non-libertarians. You would not be preaching to the choir. (To be sure,
the choir would also be there to support you). Also, most Berkeley students
vote.
  2) Berkeley political activities get local and Bay Area wide media
coverage. In fact, Bill Bradley made a well-publicized appearance here in
the spring.
  3) The Cal Libertarians would relentlessly publicize the event beginning
several weeks in advance to ensure good turnout and media coverage. It
would be our top priority. We would put up thousands of posters, hand out
thousands of fliers, and do our best to drag every bay area newspaper and TV
station out to cover the event. (Note: We will be doing major publicity for
the Harry Browne Campaign in general whether you come here or not).
4)At Berkeley we would arrange for you to speak (with a microphone and
speaker system) on the steps of Sproul Hall at noon. Sproul Plaza is the
campuses political and social center. It is always teeming with students
and others, and it was the center of the famous "Free Speech Movement" in
the 60's. Noon is the time when political rallies are generally held at
Sproul. In addition to this, we would arrange for you to speak in a 400-700
seat lecture hall during the evening. To make these arrangements I would
simply need to have a firm date as far in advance as possible. These two
events could be set up for the same day. You could also opt for just one of
these possibilities. Any day between Labor Day and the election would work
as long as we know a few weeks in advance for publicity.

If you are interested in visiting Berkeley on the campaign trail, or have
any questions, give me a reply or a call at xxx-xxx-xxxx. I wish you the
best of luck, Mr. President.
                                       Yours In Liberty,
                                           Mark Goodman
