"Hi, I'm mod. As you may have guessed, I am the creator of the Mod Diet (and of this website). I discovered it by accident, mostly through my years at college. I wasn't trying to lose weight; I was just too busy (or lazy) to eat or prepare food. And of course, schoolwork and Starcraft often consumed my evenings so that I didn't have the chance to eat.

I've always had the capacity to eat a lot at a single meal. Ever since I ate a full 24-oz. steak in one sitting in high school, I was known for being able to eat a ridiculous amount of food for my body size. When people began to notice that, it was pointed out that I always seemed to eat more than anyone else but never seemed to gain any weight. And it was true. I've been 125 lbs. for the past 10 years. (I was briefly 130 summer of 2003, but that lasted a couple days, weeks at most). I can eat a pound of prime rib plus a lobster tail plus three lemon garlic prawns plus sides, and still stay the third lightest male adult I know. (There are two guys I know who weigh less than me; there's something wrong with them.)

Of course, I knew the secret to staying thin: I may eat a lot in one meal, but over the course of a week, I eat no more, probably less, than a normal person on average. This made me think, if everybody else followed my eating schedule (or lack thereof), they could probably become just as light as me. In fact, the Mod Diet would probably be even more effective for most other people because the normal person does not eat as much as me in a single meal when indulging. And of course, there's the money-saving benefit. I spend less than $400 on food a month. That comes out to about $13 a day. And that includes several occasions where I go out and have a really fancy dinner.

I've lived the Mod Diet for years; I just never put a name to it until now. The Mod Diet works for me because I've found a hobby (Warcraft III, or gaming in general) that prevents me from eating dinner (and sometimes lunch on weekends). It's gotten to the point where it is more troublesome to try to make dinner than it is just to skip it. And that, my friends, is the ultimate goal of the Mod Diet. When it becomes easier and more desirable to skip a meal than to eat, you should no longer worry about being overweight. I believe anyone can succeed with this method; you just need to find the right inspiration."
