विश्व विख्यात कंपनी इनफ़ोसिस की सह-संस्थापिका और बहु-प्रतिष्ठ लेखिका श्रीमती सुधा मूर्ति जी के नाम को किसी परिचय की आवश्यकता नहीं है।
वह कन्नड़ भाषी हैं और कन्नड़ में लिखना अंग्रेजी की अपेक्षा उनके लिए अधिक सहज है। परन्तु श्री टी.जे.एस. जॉर्ज से प्रेरणा प्राप्त कर उन्होंने अंग्रेजी में लिखना प्रारम्भ किया। यह पुस्तक भी उन्होंने श्रीमान जॉर्ज को ही समर्पित की है।
“तीन हज़ार टाँके” में सुधा जी के जीवनानुभव और गहन अनुभूति के दर्शन होते हैं।
इस पुस्तक में उन्होंने अपने जीवन से जुड़ी ग्यारह ऐसी घटनाओं का वर्णन किया है, जो मनुष्य को निराशा के भँवर से निकालकर आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करती हैं।
1996 में इनफ़ोसिस फाउंडेशन की स्थापना के साथ ही सुधा जी ने सर्वप्रथम देवदासी प्रथा को समाप्त कर उनके पुनरुत्थान हेतु काम करने का निर्णय लिया।
उन्होंने देवदासियों से मिलकर उनकी दयनीय दशा को जाना, उनकी आवश्यकताओं को समझा और उनके लिए अनेक सुविधाएं जुटायीं।
इस प्रकार अनेक कठिनाइयों का सामना करते हुए अथक परिश्रम और साहस से तीन हज़ार देवदासियों और उनके परिवारों का पुनरुत्थान करने में सफलता प्राप्त की।
सुधा जी का जन्म एक रूढ़िवादी परिवार में हुआ था। इसलिए जब उन्होंने इंजीनियर बनने का फैसला किया तो उन्हें परिवार के विरोध का सामना करना पड़ा।
परन्तु दृढ निश्चयी सुधाजी ने अडिग रहकर इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज में प्रवेश लिया। तथा अनेक समस्याओं का सामना करते हुए एकमात्र छात्रा होने के बावजूद सर्वोत्तम अंकों के साथ यह परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की।
उन्होंने यह सिद्ध कर दिया की महिलाएं भी जीवन के प्रत्येक क्षेत्र में पुरुषों को पराजित कर अपनी श्रेष्ठता सिद्ध कर सकती हैं।
“विचार हेतु भोजन” में सुधा जी ने अपनी सहेली के वनस्पति विज्ञानी पिता से उन फल और सब्ज़ियों के विषय में प्राप्त ज्ञान का वर्णन किया है जिन्हें हम भारतीय समझते हैं, परन्तु वास्तव में वह विदेशी हैं।
बनारस भगवान् विश्वनाथ और पतित-पावनी गंगा से जुड़े संस्मरण और दक्षिण भारतीयों की आस्था का चित्रण “त्रयांजलि नीर” में देखने को मिलता है। सुधा जी ने फरवरी 1996 में बनारस की यात्रा की और उस यात्रा से जुड़े अनुभवों को इस खंड में साझा किया है।
“कैटल क्लास” एक ऐसे विशेष वर्ग के विषय में सुधा जी के अनुभवों को दर्शाता है जो दिखावे की दोहरी ज़िन्दगी जीते हैं।
सुधा जी के पिता डॉक्टर थे। वह एक सहृदय व्यक्ति थे और अपने जीवन में उन्होंने विपरीत परिस्थितियों से जूझते हुए अनेक लोगों की سبز संभव सहायता की। पिता की सदाशयता को दर्शाती अनेक मार्मिक घटनाएं पाठकों को “एक अलिखित जीवन’ में पढ़ने को मिलती हैं।
कभी-कभी निर्धनता ऐसी परिस्थितियां उत्पन्न कर देती है कि व्यक्ति अपना घर-परिवार सब छोड़कर धनार्जन हेतु विदेश चला जाता है।
वहाँ पहुँच कर वह किन कुचक्रों में फँस जाता है, कितने अन्याय और अत्याचार सहता है तथा घर वापसी के लिए किस प्रकार छटपटाता है। कुछ ऐसी ही महिलाओं की कथा ‘घर जैसी कोई जगह नहीं’ में दर्शायी गयी है।
विदेशों में भारतीय अभिनेता-अभिनेत्रियों तथा उनकी फिल्मों की लोकप्रियता किसी से छिपी नहीं है। सुधा जी ने इनको भारतीय राजदूत की संज्ञा दी है क्योंकि यह संपूर्ण विश्व में हमारी संस्कृति और कला के वाहक हैं।
इस पुस्तक में वह वर्णन बहुत रोचक हैं जिनमें सुधा जी विदेशों में रह रहे अपने पोते-पोतियों को पौराणिक कथाएं सुनाती हैं और जिन्हें बच्चे आधुनिक वातावरण से जोड़ कर नई कहानियों का सृजन कर लेते हैं।
सुधा जी की व्यस्ततम दिनचर्या की झलक भी हमें इस पुस्तक में देखने को मिलती है। उन्होंने सामाजिक चेतना को जागृत करने की दिशा में अनेक सराहनीय कार्य किए।
शराब का सेवन करने वाले ऐसे बहुत से लोग जो धन-संपत्ति, पत्नी-बच्चों और नाते-रिश्तेदारों को खो चुके थे, उनसे उनकी भेंट ‘ऐ ऐ’ ग्रुप में हुई। यह एक ऐसा ग्रुप है जो नशा मुक्ति के क्षेत्र में कार्य करता है।
सारांशतः यह पुस्तक विविध घटनाओं, समस्याओं और अनुभवों पर आधारित है तथा हमारे समाज की सच्ची तस्वीर हमारे सन्मुख प्रस्तुत करती है।
इसमें सामाजिक शोषण सहता हुआ देवदासी समाज है तो आर्थिक समस्याओं से लड़ता हुआ एक ऐसा तबका है जो विदेशों की ओर भागता है और अंततः उसे ज्ञात होता है यह केवल एक मृगतृष्णा है।
पुस्तक में वर्णित प्रत्येक घटना हमें पलायन करने की अपेक्षा संघर्ष का सन्देश देती हैऔर विषम परिस्थितियों से जूझने को प्रोत्साहित करती है।
सुधा मूर्ति जी की यह पुस्तक मूलतः अंग्रेजी में है। परन्तु मैंने इसे किंडल में (آسیا-बुक के रूप में) पढ़ा है। इसके अनुवादक बधाई के पात्र हैं जिन्होंने पुस्तक की आत्मा से छेड़छाड़ किये बगैर उसके मूल भावों और विचारों को ज्यों का त्यों प्रस्तुत किया है।
भाषा की दृष्टि से यदि देखें तो अनुवादकर्ता ने व्यावहारिक हिंदी का प्रयोग किया है जिसे आसानी से समझा जा सकता है। कसावट भाषा का एक विशिष्ट गुण है और यह इस पुस्तक में सर्वत्र दिखाई देता है।
“तीन हज़ार टाँके” – यह पुस्तक कोई उपन्यास या कहानी संग्रह नहीं है, वरन यह सुधा मूर्ति जी के जीवन से जुड़ीं हुई ऐसी घटनाओं का संकलन है जिसे संस्मरण का एक रूप कहा जा सकता है।
प्रत्येक घटना पृथक है इसलिए पात्र भी अलग-अलग हैं। परन्तु पात्रों की सबसे बड़ी विशेषता यह है कि वे सीधे-सादे और सरल हैं तथा अपनी व्यथा-कथा स्वयं कहते हुए दिखाई देतें हैं।
इस पुस्तक की प्रत्येक घटना बहुत सादगी से प्रारंभ होती है, उसमें अनेक मोड़ और कई कठिनाइयाँ आती हैं और उत्तरोत्तर वे अपने चरम पर पहुँच जाती हैं।
इस पुस्तक में कुल ग्यारह अध्याय हैं और प्रत्येक अध्याय को सुधा जी ने अलग-अलग शीर्षक दिए हैं। जैसे-जैसे घटनाक्रम आगे बढ़ता जाता है, इन शीर्षकों की उपयोगिता और सार्थकता सिद्ध होने लगती है।
“तीन हज़ार टाँके”, “त्रयांजलि नीर”, “एक अलिखित जीवन”, “घर जैसी कोई जगह नहीं”, “मैं नहीं हम कर सकते हैं” आदि में जिन लोगों और जिन घटनाओं का वर्णन किया गया है वह हृदय को द्रवित कर देती हैं और कभी-कभी तो यह सोचने पर विवश कर देती हैं कि क्या ऐसा संभव है और क्या कोई ऐसा कर सकता है?
परन्तु सुधा जी में असंभव को संभव करने का दृढ निश्चय और अपारशक्ति है।
सुधा जी एक कुशल लेखिका हैं और उनकी यह पुस्तक हमारी सोच, विचार और क्रियाशीलता को प्रभावित करती है।
यह एक प्रेरणास्पद कृति है जिसमें मार्मिकता और सौंदर्य के साथ-साथ आनंद भी है। कथा, भाषा, शैली प्रत्येक दृष्टि से यह एक अत्युत्तम रचना है।
मेरे विचार से यह एक ऐसी पुस्तक है जिसे प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को पढ़ना ही चाहिए क्योंकि यह केवल हमारा मनोरंजन ही नहीं करती वरन हमारे जीवन को गति प्रदान करती है।
हम सभी अपने जीवन में कुछ लड़ाइयाँ हार जातें हैं पर हम युद्ध जीत सकते हैं। “आशा सदैव विद्यमान है” पुस्तक के अंत में लिखा गया यह वाक्य मन को ऊर्जा से भर देता है और हृदय पर अमिट छाप छोड़ता है।
यहाँ मैं “तीन हज़ार टाँके”, “घर जैसी कोई जगह नहीं” और “एक अलिखित जीवन” का विशेष रूप से उल्लेख करना चाहूँगी क्योंकि इसके अंत इतने मर्मस्पर्शी हैं कि वाणी मौन हो जाती है और आँखों में आँसू छलकने लगते हैं।
