"Perhaps the point of life is to give life meaning." ~ a dude in Shivani's meditation section today

Also, I'm on a fast/diet to get ready for Monday. On Monday I'm going to receive "attunement"--that is, I'll be initiated into Reiki practice. Reiki is a form of energy healing. The following is from reiki.com:

Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on healing that increases energy, reduces pain, produces deep relaxation and a general feeling of well-being. Reiki initiation attunes a practitioner to become a channel for the Reiki energy and is a powerful, life-changing experience for growth along your spiritual path.

The Usui method of natural healing, as taught by Hawayo Takata, involves three levels or degrees. As soon as a practitioner has been initiated, the healing energy begins to flow. Level [I] Reiki connects the practitioner to the Reiki channel. Level II Reiki teaches the practitioner long distance or remote healing, and Level III Reiki initiates the practitioner to become a Reiki Master and teacher. Each level requires its own set of attunements. Reiki initiations are for life.

I'll be studying under the same guy who's teaching my creative writing class and my meditation section, so I'm already comfortable with him as a mentor. He'll be initiating me, of course, into Level I Reiki.

The fast isn't strictly necessary but comes highly recommended as it will help me to be very clear on the day of attunement. It consists primarily of abstaining from meat, sugar, caffeine, and alcohol, as well as "mental toxins" (including radio, television, and other similar forms of media, though not necessarily including reading inspirational material and using e-mail, for instance). Caffeine and alcohol aren't really a problem because I don't consume either, but meat and sugar may prove to be somewhat of a challenge. Actually, sugar more so, since I'm hard-pressed to find fruit juices or any beverage that doesn't have sugar in it. I'm okay going without meat, though.

I love Berkeley. Where else can you just walk down the street to get first-hand advice on the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram?

Okay, maybe Salem, Massachusetts.

Ohmigod, I finally finished my ritual robe. It took me over 12 hours just to hand-sew, not to mention all the preparation. Never say I wasn't dedicated to the Craft. (Or I could've just gotten/borrowed a sewing machine, but then I would've been either less dedicated or more wise or both.)
