ASCENT is an acronym standing for Advanced Strategies for Competing Effectively and Nurturing Technique.  The title says it all: it is a program within club for any shooters who want to improve their form, learn the more technical aspect of shooting, learn about competition, and just shoot more.

The program is perfect for shooters who want to dive deeper into competitive shooting. ASCENT is a closed environment with lots of one-on-one instruction: we have coaches/instructors come in who are focused solely on teaching the students how to improve their shooting, and many shooters use it as a stepping stone towards making the competitive team. It’s also a great place to get to know senior members who will be teaching you as well!

ASCENT is a program open to all skill levels; all we ask is a commitment to coming out each week with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.  ASCENT meets every Sunday from 9am-12pm . The only thing you need to do is to show up! No registration or sign up is required.

Additionally, we have recently added the TAAP Program into ASCENT. The Traditional Asian Archery Program (TAAP) provides instruction on how to shoot with the Asian thumb using traditional Asiatic bows with no arrow shelves, no sites, no stabilizers. The thumb release (also known as the “Mongolian” release) was the preferred method of shooting for historic horseback archers, as well as for historical Asian and Eastern European cultures. The instructors are Jie Tian and Justin Ma, two experts in the field of traditional archery.

The basis for the curriculum is a 1637 Chinese military archery manual (The Way of Archery: A 1637 Chinese Military Training Manual). This is a great program for those interested in experiencing an important aspect of archery culture and history.
