Statement from CaHPSA Board

To our CaHPSA community,
As some of you may have seen, our organization very briefly had its name signed onto a statement released by Bears for Palestine (BFP) following the escalation of tension in the Middle East. CaHPSA’s inclusion on the list of cosigners was a result of a single board member acting independently without first consulting the board or other members. Because this action was taken without the full consent of all board members, we’ve removed ourselves from the list. We want to clearly state that the statement does not represent the views of CaHPSA as an organization or those of the board collectively. We are actively in the process of establishing an official procedure for providing organizational support to initiatives and/or statements issued by entities both on- and off-campus.
As an organization, we grieve the loss of life and particularly acknowledge the pain felt by members of our own CaHPSA community. We recognize that this act has real consequences and want to sincerely apologize for the harm that has come from it. CaHPSA and its board are dedicated to our goal of effecting change in the healthcare system in support of comprehensive, high-quality, accessible, guaranteed, and affordable healthcare for all Californians and we will continue working tirelessly in service of that mission.
