About

The One Health Model

One Health has been defined as “the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines—working locally, nationally, and globally—to attain optimal health for people, animals and the environment.”  One Health can be defined as the added value in terms of lives  of animals and humans saved, financial savings and improved ecosystem services from a closer cooperation of human and animal health as compared to single sector approaches (Zinsstag et al., 2012).

The One Health Student Initiative is a conjoined effort between undergraduate and graduate students at the University of California, Berkeley, across disciplines (public health, biology, environmental sciences, and medicine) to educate one another and their respective communities on issues and approaches to global human, animal and environmental health.
