PLAY!

Now that you've found your new hobby, time to put it in action! We'll use WoW as an example. This works best if you're a full-time student or are working full-time. Presumably you'll be working for most of the day, say 9 to 7 (including commute time). When you get home, you're probably hungry and will be tempted to make some dinner for yourself. STOP! Fire up WoW instead. You've got some leveling up to do. Or if you're capped, I'm sure your guild has some raids to do. Either of these can easily take 4-5 hours. Be sure to start playing as soon as you get home! Playing is more fun than eating anyway.

At first, you might be unaccustomed to the hunger you'll feel during the night. But as you live the Mod Diet, you'll begin to realize that if you leave yourself hungry for a couple hours, the hunger will go away for a bit. And the game is there to help distract you from your hunger, so you're not thinking about food as much. Therein lies the beauty of the Mod Diet; you're not making an effort to eat less like the old-fashioned diet; your hobby and lifestyle consumes so much of your time that you don't have the time to eat to begin with!

After completing your raid, you'll find that it's nearly midnight. You've been playing for several hours already, and it's just about time to go to bed. And here is the second great part of the Mod Diet. If you're asleep, you're not hungry. (Well physically your body might be, but psychologically you are not thinking about food unless you're dreaming about it.) At midnight, you haven't eaten dinner yet, but you're all ready for bed. Might as well go to bed and skip dinner tonight. This has the extra benefit of saving what you were going to eat tonight for tomorrow. Not only does the food in your fridge last one day longer, but that's another day where you're saving money on dinner!

If you do this for just three nights a month, you'll already have saved the money you spent on a WoW subscription (assuming you spend $5 on a meal, which is quite possibly an underestimate if you eat out a lot). But if you're really living the Mod Diet, you'll be so addicted to WoW that you'll probably be skipping 3-5 dinners a week.

If you're wondering about what to do for other meals, don't worry too much. Normal people can only eat so much at a time. Just do what you've normally been doing, nothing more, nothing less. If you usually go out to eat with coworkers for lunch, keep doing that. The Mod Diet focuses on weekday dinners, or the lack thereof.
